Make The Social Media Change To Benefit Your Personal Brand

Each one of us has a comfort zone; it is human nature to want to be comfortable. The problem with being comfortable is it can lead to complacency. Complacency will lead to failure in whatever you are being complacent in.

Weight lifting is a good example. What happens to muscle if it’s never used?  It will get smaller and eventually become useless.  The only way to get muscle to grow is to make it sore, make it hurt and break it down. No pain no gain. The same applies to our business life and any other aspect of our life. If we become complacent in our work pretty soon we may be looking for a different line of work. It is important to recognize the areas in your life where you may have become complacent and make the necessary changes.  This is easier said than done. If you want to grow then you need to get out there and do something about it. “If you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting”.  Change is constant, if we fight this change we will be unhappy and unsuccessful most of our lives Read more…

Holiday Shopping together

Holiday shopping would be a cinch if you could simply give health to everyone on your list. But we’ve yet to find a place to pick up lower blood pressure, pain-free joints or a better back. What we have found are five finger shoes, active folks who are committed to fitness. We asked them what’s on their wish lists this holiday.Brian Brown, 43, is serious about soccer, but he’s also ready to try some new things in the new year. The East Dallas, Texas man, who is in multiple soccer leagues, gets on the field several times a week.

Ready to give yoga a try to help increase flexibility and strength and prevent injuries, Brown needs a mat to get started. The Mat from Lululemon, $68. It’s been awhile since Brown was a regular at the racquetball court. But after revisiting the game for the first time in 10 years, he’s ready to give it another go.”Given that my racquet is 10 years old, it’s time for a new one.” Read more…

Social Marketing Success with Twitter

Some social networking services offer a laundry list of features. They allow users to set up detailed profiles, blogs and more. But others, like Twitter, are much simpler. The key feature of this beloved site is the ability to broadcast messages of 140 characters or less. For those with a short attention span (which, considering how much information we’re bombarded with these days, is just about everyone), it’s just what the doctor ordered.

You might think that 140 characters isn’t much to work with. At first, it does seem rather difficult to market effectively under such a restriction. But many companies have taken to Twitter for promotional purposes, and they have done very well with it. Read more…

Influence is Three Dimensional

Alright. I’m gonna start out slow here. How influential would you say… oh I don’t know… Julian Assange, founder of the notorious “Wikileaks”, is? You’d probably say “Oh he’s quite influential! He releases top-secret government documents, stirs up the political pot, and is regarded as incredibly dangerous by many nations!” Well you’d be correct. He puts lives in danger, is becoming exponentially more well-known, and is a threat to many a nation’s security because he is able to acquire and release highly classified information to the general public. Now, if I were to ask you exactly how much influence Julian Assange has on the Inuit tribes of the arctic, what would you say? Well, I’d reckon you would say “not much”.

The point I’m trying to make here is that being loud isn’t the only dimension of influence, and you can’t readily measure it by just comparing which one is louder. There are many other factors and data involved. For instance, when mixing a song you don’t just blast every instrument at full volume. Read more…

The Twitterbug

I used to not be so twitter savvy. I didn’t like it. I thought it was pointless and dumb and stupid. I thought all of these things- about a year ago. But something changed. Now I can’t be separated from it. Why? The power of social media influencers has caught my attention.

The influencer formula is undeniable. I’ve been blasting away tweet after tweet trying to build my brand. I’ve also been closely tracking the current top trends in my market that are presently impacting my field as well as identifying and evaluating the top influencers in various other sectors. I often chat with my friends about Twitter and it’s importance in the line of work I do. You just can’t kid around with Twitter. It’s importance is undeniable fact. Read more…

Social Media Maybe?

So I read a recent research study done on a multitude of brands and the results? Not that surprising. A little under 50% of the brands studied said that the jury was out on social media. Why’s that not surprising? Well, one can’t exactly measure the return on the investment as easily as one might like. It takes a lot of time and resources to track all the data necessary, or you just have to luck out and have an ingenious analyst on your team. And the inherent value isn’t exactly forthcoming either. Reputation isn’t as easily tracked as one might think, but that’s what it does. Social Media investment, at it’s core, creates a massive return on reputation. The trouble is that controlling that reputation is so difficult. Why?

Having a veritable cornucopia of positive social opportunities means you also have just as many negative social opportunities. Keeping the balance can be tedious. One slip up and you can have the hounds on your tail, losing favor universally. The cost of setting up a social media investment is easily calculated. The return? Not so much. A lot of digital marketers play the guess and check method of throwing money at a campaign they think might have value and then checking if there was any verifiable return. This happens more often than you think. Now you may have thought to yourself, if under 50% of the brands were unsure, what did the other think? Well let me break it down for you. All but 1% of those studied acknowledged that there was some value in social media investment. It’s crazy I know. 35% of that noticed a similar or increased return than from other types of media investment. Read more…

Social Media! Social Media for Everyone! …or Not?

With any new field comes risks. That’s irrefutable fact. Social Media is no exception. As it continues to rise in relevancy more and more see the opportunities created and want to jump right in. So should you? Consider this. Say, you’re a freelance investor who just made a very profitable and successful stock trade. Say you decide to hop on twitter and brag about it. Say someone, knowing you’re profession takes that advice and takes the plunge. Say they sue you. Now you get what I’m saying?

I’m not trying to scare you. Social Media is great! But it’s amorphous, ever present, and always changing. It’s impossibly hard to define, incredibly hard to contain, and even harder to predict. You’d be cautious entering a new unfamiliar place for the first time, wouldn’t you? So why not be cautious when dealing with Social Media? You have to prepare yourself for sudden changes and and unexpected turns. Read more…
