It’s All in the Presentation

In addition to the content of the communication, take into account the format of the content. A delicacy served on a paper plate isn’t worth as much as it is when presented on a china plate with a garnish. It’s all in the presentation. You may have extremely valuable content but if it is just thrown together without much effort put into the final presentation of the content, the social object you have created isn’t worth as much as it would have been with an enticing format. This isn’t to say that the content has become entirely worthless but it won’t be recognized as something of great value without the proper presentation.

It is human nature to be attracted to aesthetically pleasing things. Simplicity plays an important role in aesthetics. The general public is not interested in something that is over-complicated and time consuming. You can simplify your content without losing any of its integrity by presenting the key points of the subject matter and leaving out anything that doesn’t directly support the key points and doesn’t provide an element of entertainment. Social Media and Brand Consistency

We all talk about brand building and using social media as a marketing tool a lot. One subject that I feel has been overlooked is keeping your branding consistent throughout each different social media platform. The look and feel of most social media platforms are all different but it’s important that when someone visits your Facebook or Twitter page that they still know it’s definitely your brand. So how will they know?

Facebook

Many brands use the FBML tab to create a tab that looks and feels very similar to the brand’s website. You will need to either know HTML or FBML or you will need to have someone write it for you. There are several other customizable options on Facebook including the About section, the ability to upload company logo’s and pictures and switching the tab that shows up first for your Facebook page visitors. You can see some great examples of excellent Facebook pages on the inspiration feed blog. Read more…

Don’t Touch That Button—Save Your Personal Brand!

As a young man I was always fascinated by the James Bond movies. I loved the action, the toys and, okay, the girls.  But the toys are what really fascinated me. The idea of a watch with a laser in it, a car that could actually be a submarine or a motorbike that could turn into an airplane captivated me. James Bond was definitely one of my childhood heroes.

It seemed that every movie followed the same basic plot and each of the bad guys all had a special button they could push when things seemed a little too bad–the “self destruct button”,  When it became apparent that the bad guys where going to lose they always went for that button. Read more…

Professional Social Networking For Your Success

As a professional in any industry, you should be using social networking to your advantage. The statistics about the influence of social media are overwhelming. Major marketing campaigns; such as Pepsi’s $20 million Super bowl campaign, have all but abandoned television and radio advertisements and have made the shift to marketing through social media. Facebook has taken it upon themselves to reinvent the way we do internet by infiltrating every webpage with the “like” button. Is your personal brand and business “liked”?

Google has moved away from its traditional search algorithm of simply searching for content, keyword, etc. They now include social media as part of the magical formula to create search results. When you search for your name I bet your Twitter and Facebook (if you have them) both come up on the first page of results. As a result, those who have not taken advantage of professional social networking are in danger of missing out on premium search result spots. Other search engines are adopting similar algorithms as well. They are all realizing the power that social media has on the virtual world. Read more…

Putting Your Dollar on TV, Social Media Ad Spending

“Win a free iPad ® with a purchase of a new laptop!”

“Shop between the hours of 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. for door buster savings!”

“Be among the first ten in line this ‘Black Friday’ and receive six months free financing on a brand-new 55″ LCD!”

You’ve undoubtedly seen the numerous commercials on television and social media touting “Black Friday” and other Christmas specials this holiday season. C’mon: we know you’ve seen the “Every kiss begins with K” commercial at least 372 times.

All kidding and wisecracking aside, ad spending this holiday season for television commercials and social media has seen a tidy increase over this time last year. What are the Advantages of Direct Marketing?

Direct marketing is a marketing tool which comprises activities such as direct mail, telemarketing, mail order, direct response advertising and email marketing.

Direct marketing provides a unique range of benefits because it enables you to engage directly with your audience – whether they are prospects, leads, end users or existing customers.

Other advantages of direct marketing include:

Flexible Targeting

Direct marketing enables you to talk directly identify, isolate and communicate with well-defined target markets. This means you get a higher conversion and success rate than if you tried communicating to everyone in the mass market. And direct marketing is also far cheaper than mass market communication.

Multiple Uses

Direct marketing doesn’t just have to be used to sell – it can be used to test new markets and trial new products or customers, to reward existing customers to build loyalty, collect information for future campaigns, or segment a customer base.

Make The Social Media Change To Benefit Your Personal Brand

Each one of us has a comfort zone; it is human nature to want to be comfortable. The problem with being comfortable is it can lead to complacency. Complacency will lead to failure in whatever you are being complacent in.

Weight lifting is a good example. What happens to muscle if it’s never used?  It will get smaller and eventually become useless.  The only way to get muscle to grow is to make it sore, make it hurt and break it down. No pain no gain. The same applies to our business life and any other aspect of our life. If we become complacent in our work pretty soon we may be looking for a different line of work. It is important to recognize the areas in your life where you may have become complacent and make the necessary changes.  This is easier said than done. If you want to grow then you need to get out there and do something about it. “If you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting”.  Change is constant, if we fight this change we will be unhappy and unsuccessful most of our lives Read more…

Using Twitter for Business 101

Understanding the purpose of twitter and using it appropriately has been a source of confusion for many business professionals. I have run into many professionals who don’t believe they have any use for such a platform and I’ve also met others who know they need to use twitter but don’t understand how to do so appropriately.

Using twitter is important in personal branding because, unlike blog marketing in which the reader must spend a few minutes to sift through your information, it only takes a few seconds for your reader to decide whether or not they have interest in your information and continue from that point. It is also a great platform to push out highly valuable and viral information to a large amount of people in a short amount of time. With a basic understanding of the usefulness of twitter there are two important concepts to understand before commencing on your micro-blogging journey: The type of followers you need and the type of information you should tweet.
